Date Night
anywhoo, it's been awhile since i updated this blog of mines so I'll change a pace a lil. Instead of the usual routine, I'll just give a brief summary of the plot of the movie and minute details and some quirky remarks about the film. How does that sound? well, here it is...
Ok first off the list, waaay overdue that is, is the movie "Date Night" starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey, two of today's funniest comedians (well, i think so LOL)
ok the story goes: (credit goes to IMDB)
Phil and Claire Foster are a couple who have been married for several years. Their days consist of them taking care of their children and going to work and coming home and going to bed. But they find time to have a date night wherein they go out and soend some time together. When another couple they know announce that they are seperating because they're in a rut, Phil feels that he and Claire could be too. So when date night comes Phil decides to do something different. So they go into the city and try to get into a new popular restaurant. But when it's full and still wanting to do this, Phil decides to take the reservation of a couple who doesn't show up. While they're having dinner, two men approach them and instructs them to stand up and go with them. They think the men are with the restaurant and want to talk to them about taking someone else's reservation. But it apears the couple whose reservation they took crossed someone and the two men work for this person. The men are after something, but whatever it is they don't have it.
Whoo.... ok slow down Xan, too much detail on the summary there. hmm....
Ok time for some remarks!
1) Noticed that both Steve and Tina have a chemistry on camera, like they both know how to deal with each other's comedic sides, even if the script doesn't call for comedy at the moment, they still look funny LOL but somehow i don't think it's a good thing (for anything too much isn't a good thing, don't you agree?)
2) Time sequences, i mean any movie has them, but for some reason, everything happened during that same date night, which means, err.... approximately within a 8-10 hour span (assuming it happened at 6pm, then it ended like 6am whoops! that's 12 hours o-o) well, what am I tryin to point out here? too much happening in that same night, which i don't mind, but it seems unrealistic for a couple who took some reservations from someone else (who does that?!)
3) Unrealistic driving skills, I mean, if you are 2 boring people from New Jersey, then be at least bad with the speeding and driving mania!? Cause if you can actually drive that much and good, then you are not that boring :P
4) Mark Wahlberg and his crazy shirtless abs... LOL no statement there, but he really needs a shirt, I can donate mines :D
As you can see, i didn't do the positive / neggy side but just made some comments, its just for future reference that I will start doing this in order to make more XMR since my time schedule is really restricted. LMBO
Ok the final score:
If you haven't remember my baseline:
1 - ingenuity and depth of plot/screenplay/storyline
1 - actors/actresses portrayal of roles
1 - cinematography (includes special effects and CGI stuff)
1 - movie suited for the genre it was shown for (like e.g. comedy movie for a comedy genre, etc)
1 - personal score liking (comments added here if needed)
Okay my XMR for "Date Night" would be a whooping 3.5! reason for the -1.5 is the unrealistic driving and some minor script teases i would not disclose due to some folks not yet watched the film, if you did then i can state the reason being ^^
Ok it's been a pleasure serving you guys but i gtg so til next time, Xan signing off
Clash of the Titans
Final verdict: (IDK if you noticed, but its much shorter than my most XMR's due to my lack of sleep and all sorts of things that bother me, but nevertheless)
from my previous post, so you would know my baseline)
MAX stars = 5
1 - ingenuity and depth of plot/screenplay/storyline
1 - actors/actresses portrayal of roles
1 - cinematography (includes special effects and other cgi stuff)
1 - movie suited for the genre it was shown for (like e.g. comedy for comedy, action for action, etc.)
1 - personal score liking (comments added here if needed)
My XMR for "Clash of the Titans" would be a 2 out of 5. Reason being -1 for the story, -1 for the poor extras, and -1 for the disappointing movie (+1 for the trailer though, it looked awesome!) well that's about it :D

Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Here are some interesting remarks while waiting for the movie to start:
1. Suprisingly, alot of people came (both from different walks of life, parents and their kids, newly-weds, teens just want a wholesome-filled humor film, and like me, loners who just want to see the film just because it's interesting...
2. Not eating before going to a movie is a drag, seriously if people who want to watch movies alot (like me) and have a tight schedule, may i suggest to grab a bite before going in? (i should follow my OWN advice T_T) it's due to i spent $25 bucks on 2 pretzels, 1 lrg popcorn (which i didn't finish), and a large lemonade slushie (the only 1 I truly enjoyed throughout the film). I don't regret anything, but i sure wished i had eaten before it LOL
3. Film takes about 20-30 mins to start, but the actual movie lasts 1hr 40 mins, so it took me 2 hrs and so just to catch it oddly enough for a kids movie =D
Synopsis time!
Greg is a starting middle school student in a school he describes as "weird" and tries to survive all the catastrophies and problems that arise for a kid his age. He has a diary (the object of the topic) that tells how his life is laid out in a day-to-day basis. Enriched with kiddy humor, youthful yet witty remarks, and "cheesy" jokes ^_~ it will sure make you wonder: "Did my middle school years ever been this interesting!?"
Hmm going through the rating now.... Here are some positives:
1. Actors. Fresh look for the film, Except for a few that i know the faces, most of them are newcomers, or new to film but debuted from somewhere i suppose LOL i may not be too good in describing the actors, due to the age they are in (not really specific since all of them are waaaay younger than me, which makes me have a hard time describing their "on-screen" debut and stuff. Sorry! >_<
2. The actual book. If you have read the book like me, you will not have any questions why the book was a 5-star best selling book, and just watch the film if it does come up to the expectations :P
3. Trailer. Always grab's the eyes of the viewers to thinking that "this movie is might be worth watching" LOL @ "a butt is not cute, it's just a butt" xDDDDD
Neggy's coming up (negatives)
1. Short. Like the book, i felt that it was short due to i was actually enjoying it, so i wonder, it this comment really a neggy? LOL. But to stick to the seriousness of my review, i must say this movie felt a bit short.
2. Theme-sticking. I mean, if you did bother to buy/read the book, then you would figure: hmm... would Riley do this? Or will the "cheese" be as gruesome as they described in the book? I was just imagining and realized that some parts in the book they innovated a little and made it "film-like" taking away the cartoony feeling the book had given us to enjoy. Felt to me like it was slightly a different story from the actual thing i read, but still =)
3. Cinematography. I mean come on! i know it's a kids film, but i kinda missed some ingenuity in using some special effects. I mean, i think they lacked some cool stuff they could have actually tried..., but they still sticked to the genre which is ok i guess...
Final verdict: (IDK if you noticed, but its much shorter than my most XMR's due to my lack of sleep and all sorts of things that bother me, but nevertheless)
from my previous post, so you would know my baseline)
MAX stars = 5

My XMR for "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" would be a 3.5 out of 5 . -0.5 getting a bit off from the book, -0.5 for cinematography (needed more special effects imho), and -0.5 for the shortness it felt when watching it. I enjoyed every part of it though ^_~
Green Zone
I noticed a few things during my stay over there...
1. There were not much people watching in that specific movie, like its mostly people who likes political stuff (in short, old people O_O) but to watch it like at that time makes sense, cuz most people have lives to live hehehe
2. Bought 1 reg size popcorn and 1 medium h2o and i realized that i would not spend $10 bucks on something i wouldn't enjoy anyway (ohh btw thanks jess for tipping me that popcorn and h2o = not a good idea T.T)
So in short folks, when you go to a cinema, or a movie house remember, eat first outside cuz all the foods there are a ripoff o.o
3. The trailer for the movie seemed nice, in fact, it showed more interesting things than the actual movie itself (ill explain later) but the trailer made me watch the movie, or so i taught it was >.<
Ok here is the synopsis:
Story is about a chief warrant officer (Damon) who gets into a wild goose chase with WMD (or weapons of mass destruction) within Iraq. It goes by the story after the occupation of Americans in Iraq, after the war. They go on and on within the system and searches for those equipment that could not be found. He is helped by a CIA operative and some of his troops only to find out a deeper truth than the said issue. Based on a fictional book by an author which i could not remember atm. (sorry bout that)
Ok movie rating. Hmm the main reasons that i wanted to see this movie are the following:
1. matt damon (good acting sense, makes the "bourne" char look so good and realistic, and has this snappy way of punching stuff O_O)
2. director of "bourne" movies. seriously, any guy not liking this film is gay, bi, or not a man. ;P
3. Trailer. Good cinematography, action sequences, and whole lot of plot ^_~
Now for the upsides/downsides part (which maybe short due to the following)
upsides:
1. fictional. If it wasn't, the whole government (america) would collapse if this were true, and no one will believe in it after (you have to watch it to understand it
2. Complicated storyline. Yup this could be an upside due to alot of politically minded individuals watched this film and liked the screenplay. Unfortuantely, this is also a downside
3. Iraq shooting places. Seriously, this showed how the Iraqi people are during those times, i mean depicted scenes of them during those times. I admit, it may me graphic to some audiences (hence rated R) but it justs shows how it was during those times, and yup, those are real, whether you're naive enough to deny it, or don't believe it. It does happen in real life
downsides:
1. poor storyline. Like i stated above, it is complicated, but it only goes back and forth and then makes it simple because its just about the political issue of Iraq. At first people taught its a story after bourne, but then when the movie starts its waaay different from it, i mean the main char doesnt even fight much, only shooting and stuff. another thing is it may be too compliacted for young audiences that people lose interest in watching it (i even saw people leaving the arena cuz it bored them?) but for me it was ok, im just talking for the majority of them hehe
2. sad action sequences. i mean cmon! matt damon, do something?! like i said earlier, the trailers all you gonna get, other than that, its purely talking about the said topic, and some fights here and there. And the fights are just gunfire and some other illogical stuff. T.T (another thing is people compare this to bourne cuz of two things, director and main char. so if you gonna make another kind of movie when you have these two people, i suggest makin it more action, less talking)
3. genre depicted. it says "action thriller" but there wasnt any imho. i can consider this a political depiction more than action nor thriller because of the neverending talking about how the %#@$%@#^@#$^ (starts talkin about the movie, but cant say here due to potential movie goers) but nevertheless, depicted very good about how Iraq was before and now.
Final verdict:
(from my previous post, so you would know my baseline)
MAX stars = 5
1 - ingenuity and depth of plot/screenplay/storyline
1 - actors/actresses portrayal of roles
1 - cinematography (includes special effects and other cgi stuff)
1 - movie suited for the genre it was shown for (like e.g. comedy for comedy, action for action, etc.)
1 - personal score liking (comments added here if needed)
Xan's Movie Rating (XMR) for "Green Zone" would be a 1.5 out of 5 . -1 for ingenuity, -1 for cinematography (dizzy spells for me after watchin it), -1 for the genre depicted, and -.5 for my personal liking (didn't really enjoyed the whole movie, some parts of it only) ^_~
She's Out of My League
Was there and noticed alot of people who were watchin it seemed to be the same couple as shown in the movie (oddly enough)... for those of you peeps who dont know what the movie is all about, i shall give a brief synopsis without ruining it for those peeps who want to watch it =P
The story is very straightforward. its about an ordinary guy, with an ordinary job, which by fate, happens to meet this very attractive girl, who happens to befriend him, and eventually likes him. story goes on and on between the two people, one tryin so hard to know the reason why the girl is so into him, and the girl who is just fascinated by the guy, but didnt know why. Story continues, with some perverted jokes and sexual humor added, until they both fall in love. the end =)
(p.s. alot more happened, but couldnt state it here for potential moviegoers)
Ohh heres a more detailed plot (straight from wikipedia, no credit to me here)
>Kirk (Jay Baruchel) works at the Pittsburgh airport as a Transportation Security Administration officer and has very few goals in life other than trying to get back together with his evil ex-girlfriend Marnie (Lindsay Sloane). Then he meets smart, sexy, charming Molly (Alice Eve) and, contrary to all expectations, starts dating her. But his initial excitement turns to panic as his insecurities and the advice of family and friends threaten to ruin the relationship. Even Kirk isn't exactly sure what Molly sees in him, though he's willing to do whatever it takes to make the relationship work. With his friends, family, and ex-girlfriend all watching stunned from the sidelines, Kirk discovers that he'll have to work overtime in order to convince Molly that he's worth hanging on to.

Ok movie rating time! hmm at first, was eager to see it due to i can somewhat relate to the movie (not that i compare myself to the guy, but i do know what it feels like to like, and be liked... also to be paired with someone whom you wouldnt expect at all.) but after i saw the movie... i noticed some minor details that caught my eye..
1. To much airport scenes. Yup, imho (im my humble opinion) i think they are tryin to get most of that specific airport, or to promote it. they shown the entire building, from the parking entrance, to the runway, all the way to the security and so forth (you get the drift). For my taste, it was kinda too much O.o
2. The perverted humor and some *scenes (omitted the term, you guys know what im tryin to say here right?). I guess thats why they gave this movie "R" rating... it is including some crude humor and adult material that it may cause some heads turning (for better or worse) but as an adult, its fine by me (due to i have seen worse movies in conjunction to the topic)
3. Actor (played by jay baruchel) he's a great actor. Frankly speaking, but if your gonna get a "loser" type guy, then he may not be the perfect "loser". imo, he can pass as a regular guy, physique wise. maybe the way he acted in the movie gave it away, but honestly, they could get someone else to actually look like a loser type material, if thats what they are goin for anyway (the reason im thinking they got him is because he's in the rise, plus maybe the actress likes him to play the part. idk O_O just some random guesses) anyway he played the role perfectly, and i liked his freshness on the scenes. its just my opnion towards the director if they are tryin to imploy the "guy" to be incompatible with the girl, they could have settled for a less "normal" guy. or so to speak :P
Ok for the upsides!
1. Love the friend combo! so random guys, so unique, and so realistic! the way they use those 3 guys, their attitude and appearance made it believable that they are normal "bestfriends" peeps. plus, they add comedic scenes to the main actor, which brings out the realisticness of the plot. kudos for this one
2. Actress (played by Alice Eve). No words needed. Just pure admiration and silence. No questions asked =))
3. Actor (played by Jay Baruchel). like i said from the top, hes a great actor imo and gives freshness to the scene. gave another kudos for his line-delivering technique hehehe
Final verdict time: ok this would be my first attempt in rating movies, so for future reference, i would show what my categories are:
MAX stars = 5
1 - ingenuity and depth of plot/screenplay/storyline
1 - actors/actresses portrayal of roles
1 - cinematography (includes special effects and other cgi stuff)
1 - movie suited for the genre it was shown for (like e.g. comedy for comedy, action for action, etc.)
1 - personal score liking (comments added here if needed)
After stating my categories.... Xan's Movie Rating (XMR for short) for the movie "She's Out Of My League" would be a 3 out of 5 stars. -1 for cinematography and -1 for depth of plot. But i personally liked it ^_~
